The annual China (Hainan) International Winter Trade Fair of Tropical Agricultural Products opened on December 12, 2012 at Haikou Convention & Exhibition Center. "Village official" university students from Hainan RTVU were proud to display their self-developed products for the first time, and became the highlight of the fair. In the Hainan RTVU pavilion, a total of 24 students from
Haikou, Danzhou, Qiongzhong, Baoting, Wuzhishan, Baisha, and Lingshui exhibited 26 different self-developed products.
The fair was bustling on the first day. Freshly brewed coffee, self-service sugarcane, and dried turnips were attracting a lot of attention. Students of Miao and Li ethnicity were extra busy. Not only were they busy introducing their products, they were also popular as subjects of visitors' photographs. In spite of the hectic atmosphere, their faces beamed with joy.
“Whoever wants pomegranate, let me know.”, “How much for the eggs?”, “How much is this wild honey?”… The questions were non-stop. The Li student from Baoting felt a little shy and said: “We come here to increase awareness of our brands. Products like wild honey don’t yield much until March and April, so we don't have too much and don't want to sell out on the first day.”
The 26 kinds of products at the fair can be divided into three groups: agricultural products, seafood, and handmade crafts, among which are sugarcane taller than two people, potatoes the size of a large basin, farm fresh eggs, sea duck eggs, pomegranates, various mangoes, wild honey, bonsai coffee trees, seafood, specially made dried turnips, cultural handicrafts of the Li people, rosewood handicrafts, and so on. These various products made for quite a spectacle and stopped many in their tracks in order to take a closer look.
