On the 15th and 16th of November, a camera crew from China Central TV Station (CCTV) shot a programme about international students from Oman at Ningxia Radio & TV University (Ningxia RTVU). The show is part of celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Oman,
and of a series of documentaries, called Eternal Friendship, produced by the Arabic-language channel of CCTV; it deals mainly with cooperation and exchange between the two countries in the context of the “Belt and Road” initiative in education, culture and other areas at both the state and civil level.
The shooting took place both on- and off-campus. The on-campus part focused on the campus life and studies of the Omani students in a variety of settings, including laboratories, Chinese classes, classes in the Industrial Engineering and Software schools, the student café, the soccer field, and so on. The camera crew also followed them off campus: to the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) industrial park in East Ningxia, and to city restaurants and cultural events. Since 2007, as part of the national “Belt and Road” initiative, Ningxia RTVU has completed training of one class of Omani students, and is now on the second. It is expected that 1,000 of them will be studying at Ningxia RTVU in ten years. As both a university and a think tank, Ningxia RTVU has been contributing to the construction of the “Belt and Road” by training international professionals for overseas Chinese enterprises. They understand Chinese culture, show affection for China, possess a global perspective, and will assist overseas Chinese enterprises in realising their strategy of “going global”.
