On the afternoon of 5th July 2018, the inaugural meeting of the Association of Science and Technology and Cultural and Social Science Think Tank was held at Wuhan Radio and TV University (Wuhan RTVU).

Those attending the meeting included member of the leading Party group and vice chairman of Wuhan Association for Science and Technology, Zhang Ruoguang; vice president and professor and doctoral supervisor of Hubei Normal University, Yu Xiang; president of Wuhan Electric Power Technical College, Le Zhende; professor and doctoral supervisor of Wuhan Textile University, Wang Jinhua; head of the department in charge of enterprise and government institution affairs of Wuhan Association for Science and Technology, Song Weihua; division head of the department in charge of enterprise and government institution affairs of Wuhan Association for Science and Technology, Zeng Bo; president and professor of the school of foreign languages of Wuhan Polytechnic, Ning Yi; associate researcher of Wuhan Academy of Social Sciences, Zao Linjiao; and general manager of Wuhan Linjie Management Consulting Co., Ltd., Tu Jiwen, attended the meeting, along with all the leaders of Wuhan RTVU, members of Wuhan RTVU association for science and technology, experts from Wuhan RTVU of the cultural and social think tank, and student representatives. The meeting was chaired by Ma Feng, president of Wuhan RTVU.

At the meeting, there was a briefing on the preparation for Wuhan RTVU Association for Science and Technology; documents on the Establishment of Wuhan Vocational College of Software and Engineering and Wuhan Radio and Television University Association for Science and Technology were read out; rules for the Wuhan Vocational College of Software and Engineering and Wuhan RTVU Association for Science and Technology, and Cultural and Social Science Think Tank were approved by each group; and the members of the first committee of Wuhan RTVU Association for Science and Technology were voted in. Vice president Sun Meihua of Wuhan RTVU was elected as the first secretary-general of the Association for Science and Technology. The leaders of Wuhan RTVU issued letters of appointment to the experts in the Cultural and Social Science Think Tank that come from institutions outside the university.

Sun Meihua said that the following tasks will be the earnestly carried out under the leadership of the university and city associations for science and technology. The first is to strengthen self-construction to improve the service level of the members; the second is to work on science and technology consulting, technology services, and the transfer of scientific and technological achievements, taking the initiative in serving local economic construction; the third is to actively commit to the overall arrangement of Wuhan Association for Science and Technology, organising activities and creating positive publicity for popular science; and the fourth is to give priority to high level scientific research, to promote the integration of enterprises, universities and research institutes, to strengthen academic exchange and research cooperation between Wuhan RTVU and other institutions, and to upgrade the ability and level of scientific research.

Secretary of Wuhan RTVU Party Committee Jiang Xianying indicated that the establishment of the Association for Science and Technology and Cultural and Social Science Think Tan is a new way for Wuhan RTVU to put in place the concept of “putting people at the centre” and to implement “strengthening the university through talent.” He underlined that Wuhan RTVU should carry on the scientific spirit and to make the popularisation of scientific knowledge and the promotion of scientific innovation its priority. The Cultural and Social Science Think Tank should give play to the advantages of all its members and take an active part in researching new situations, problems, and strategies in the field of social sciences in order to serve the Party, the government, and society. It is his hope that the Association for Science and Technology and the Cultural and Social Science Think Tank will focus on the centre and strike high; make key breakthroughs and great achievements; and unite for innovation and greater development. He called on all personnel involved to free their mind and work hard together in order to realise reform and innovation, and contribute to the university’s new development in the new era.
