On November 19, 2015, the “OUC Chengdu Practical Teaching Base” was inaugurated at Chengdu Sijiqing Modern Agriculture and Technology Development Co., Ltd.
The founding of the teaching base is intended to cultivate college students’ abilities in manual labour, scientific literacy, entrepreneurship, innovation in the context of mass ventures, and innovation by all in combination with case study analysis, as well as explore and create a new path for practical teaching, offering a real environment for students to write their venture reports. The university signed an agreement with Chengdu Sijiqing Modern Agriculture and Technology Development Co., Ltd., a firm engaged in the R&D, production, and sales of organic sprouting vegetables, having already releasing over 30 types of sprouting vegetables. The university will place students in the progammes of “One College Student Per Village,” Humanities, and Economics at the vegetable sprouting base for practical teaching on a regular basis. By deepening their understanding of the base through listening to introductions, observing onsite work, and experiencing the work in person, students will be able to learn about the venture’s progress and its selling points, so as to guide the selection of topics for their venture reports and make operational plans.
Zhang Yice, OUC Chengdu Vice President, noted that the university will utilize the practice for developing learners with entrepreneurial talents, i.e. “Emphasis on practice, capabilities, and hands-on ability,” and implement ways of “instructing, demonstrating, and leading the students in practice” to cultivate capable talents comprehensively in order to meet the needs of the local economic and social developments in Chengdu.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 30 people, including Luo Yi, Chairman of the Board, Wang Junjie, General Manager of Chengdu Sijiqing Modern Agriculture and Technology Development Co., Ltd., and faculty and staff from colleges attached to OUC Chengdu and its Shuangliu Branch.
On November 29, the first practical teaching and observation activity was held by OUC Chegndu, in which students and faculty from attached colleges visited the vegetable sprouting base and experienced cooking and consuming the vegetables. A symposium was given to allow exchanges with the company’s management, following which, students and faculty promoted the base through social media apps and received presents of sprouting vegetable seeds and planting boxes for them to practice the growth and harvest of vegetables.
