From November 1-5, 2015, at the invitation of Taiwan University of Technology and Taiwan Open University, a delegation headed by President of Fujian RTVU Chen Xingyan paid a visit to Taiwan to negotiate on cooperation issues in educational collaboration with relevant colleges and universities in Taiwan.

President Chen Xingyan presents a gift to Taiwan University of Technology on behalf of Fujian RTVU

On November 1st-2nd, the delegation visited Taiwan University of Technology. At the symposium, Chen Xingyan introduced the basic situation of Fujian RTVU, mainly elaborating on establishing the Railway Higher Vocational College, hoping that Taiwan University of Technology could leverage its own relevant professional advantages and cooperate with relevant colleges and universities in Taiwan that have an edge in transportation to jointly participate in running the Railway Higher Vocational College.

Liao Xianwen welcomed the delegation headed by Chen Xingyan. He introduced the school operation model of Taiwan University of Technology, the exchanges between teachers and students at colleges and universities in Mainland China, vocational curriculum setting, learning styles, etc. He said, it is hoped that both sides could conduct an in-depth cooperation in communication related to teachers’ business, student exchanges, academic information sharing, and the integration of production and learning. He said, for the next phase, he would like to unite other colleges and universities in Taiwan that have an edge in transportation to actively participate in Fujian RTVU's initiative in establishing the Railway Higher Vocational College.

After the meeting, the delegation conducted an inspection tour on curriculum construction, community education curriculum development, the operation of administrative management, and other projects of Taiwan University of Technology. They also visited the library and other facilities.

During the visit, adhering to the principles of leveraging their respective advantages, achieving mutual benefit and win-win results, the two sides conducted thorough exchanges on the method and intention of cooperation. They signed a Letter of Proposals on Academic Exchanges.

As is known, Taiwan University of Technology was founded in 1966, with two campuses located in Taipei and Hsinchu, respectively. It is a private university with an emphasis on the application of skills education. It boasts a strong faculty team, and it was chosen as the 3rd university in the funding scheme list under the Ministry of Education of Taiwan for two consecutive years. The university enjoys a high social reputation in Taiwan. It has conducted many faculty and student exchange programmes with Fuzhou University and Sanming University, with many exchange students from mainland China at present.

From November 3-5, at the invitation of the President of Taiwan Open University Chen Songbai, a delegation headed by President of Fujian RTVU Chen Xingyan, paid a visit to this university to exchange views on school operation and negotiated the issues concerning educational cooperation.

Founded in 1986, Taiwan Open University is located in Lu Zhou District, Taipei City. It has set up 14 teaching centres throughout Taiwan, and it is the first and the largest open university in Taiwan. Taiwan Open University mainly provides adult education and continuing education support services. Distance education is adopted as its main teaching model, supplemented with face-to-face teaching. The teaching contents are delivered to students through television, radio, Internet and other channels.

Chen Songbai met Chen Xingyan and his delegation, both sides having in-depth exchanges. Chen Songbai introduced the situation of Taiwan Open University. In particular, he elaborated on how the university adapted to communication technology, introduced its network technology development, and wide popularity with MOOCS. He explained how the university conducted research on new media education technology and shared the situation of online course making in the university. He also shared with us its research achievements, such as an exploration in constructing the classroom flip with a visual concept, and how to make use of big data to foresee the future of the university.

Chen Xingyan introduced the school operation of Fujian RTVU. In particular, he mentioned the current progress made in promoting the school transformation, upgrading, and construction, hoping that through this visit, both sides could further intensify mutual cooperation, leverage respective advantages, realize mutual benefit and win-win results based on the existing cooperation.

The two sides have conducted in-depth negotiations on faculty and student exchanges, course construction, teacher training issues, etc. They have expressed an intention to cooperate in these aspects.

Relevant personnel from the Student Affairs Division, the Development Planning Division, the Teaching Affairs Administration, the Technology Division of Fujian RTVU, and the Railway Higher Vocational College participated in related activities.
