Hunan Radio and TV University (RTVU) has for the first time won a bid for four training projects of national primary and secondary school teachers. Among them, three projects, all for teachers in rural areas, will be undertaken independently by Hunan RTVU, including job orientation training for mathematics teachers from elementary schools, for chemistry teachers from junior high schools, and for counsellors from junior high schools.

Another project is the integration of online and school-based training for teachers from primary and secondary schools also in rural areas. It is jointly conducted by the Development Centre for Primary and Secondary School Teachers of Hunan Province and the continuing education website for national primary and secondary school teachers (http://www.teacher.com.cn/). This is the first time that Hunan RTVU has won a bid for a national training project of primary and secondary school teachers.

For the job orientation training project for teachers in rural areas, Hunan RTVU will organize 70 mathematics teachers from elementary schools and 70 chemistry teachers from junior high schools "whose major does not match with the subjects that they teach" to take part in the centralized training. This is a 14-day tour to visit celebrated schools. During the training, lectures, case discussions and school visits will be organized to help teachers expand their horizons, update their ideas, and improve their capabilities.

During the training for counsellors, Hunan RTVU will organize 200 counsellors and administrative staff from secondary schools in the province to carry out a 3-day centralized training for key teachers, aiming to build a "handy and capable" management team that does well in post.

Hunan RTVU is responsible for the overall management, organization and implementation of the integration of online job orientation training and school-based training for teachers from schools in rural areas. The Development Centre for Primary and Secondary School Teachers of Hunan Province and the continuing education website for national primary and secondary school teachers (http://www.teacher.com.cn/) are mainly responsible for the platform construction and development of training course resources. They provide integration training for 2,000 incumbent rural primary school teachers of four subjects (Chinese, Maths, English, Morality and Life (Society)) "whose major does not match with the subjects that they teach". They will be offered 300 hours of online study, 40 hours of online school-based study and 3 days (18 hours) offline centralized integration training.
