To better explore the personnel training mode oriented to the needs of society, to address the problems encountered in the process of self-directed learning and online learning, and to provide sound support services for students, Liaoning Radio and TV University (Liaoning RTVU) launched personalized guide learning activities in four forms in May, 2015, mainly including face-to-face tutoring, seminars, formative assessment and evaluation, and pre-exam subject tutoring.
Since May 11, 2015, School of Open Education of Liaoning RTVU has employed a total of twelve guide learning teachers to host seminars on five courses, including Learning Guide of the Open University of China, Basics of Computer Applications, etc. Another eight guide learning teachers were engaged by Liaoning RTVU to carry out face-to-face tutoring for ten courses, including Computer Accounting, Design Principles of Concrete Structures, etc. In personalized guide learning activities, the students can resolve the practical problems encountered in the process of self-directed learning through centralized teaching, individual tutoring, and peer-to-peer communication in the classrooms, computer rooms, and student learning service centres.
According to the relevant heads of Liaoning RTVU, the launch of personalized guide learning activities marked the beginning of a teaching exercise, with "students' self-directed learning in the primary role and teachers’ personalized guide learning as a supplement". For the next phase, Liaoning RTVU will, according to what the teaching and the student's individual needs dictate, continue to focus on the main teaching link, with formative assessments and evaluations, subject tutoring before exams and other personalized guide learning activities being arranged to provide beneficial assistance in their self-directed learning.
