At the opening ceremony of 2014 Guangzhou "Lifelong Learning Activity Week" held recently, the learning TV platform for Guangzhou citizens was launched, which offers another choice for them in continuing education.
To actively integrate resources, make innovations in learning methods through TV media, phone, and Internet multi-screen interaction, as well as explore new ways and new paths in building a learning society, Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau, Guangzhou Radio and TV University (Guangzhou RTVU, aka the OUC Guangzhou Branch), Guangdong Radio and TV Network Co., Ltd. have jointly built a learning TV platform for Guangzhou citizens. It is the first multi-screen interactive public learning TV platform for the public and provides citizens and teachers with yet another convenient avenue for continuing education, apart from face-to-face learning and online learning. In the future, the three sides will conduct further cooperation in the community learning sector, teaching staff training sector, sector for the aged, agricultural sector, and sector for the youth, to provide people of all ages with quality TV learning resources. Currently, the community learning sector and teaching staff training sector of the platform will be available to 13 million digital TV subscribers in Guangdong Province for free.
The community learning sector of the platform offers different sections for people of all ages, with a digital learning resources collection of nearly 150 subjects for the public to choose from. The teaching staff training sector is built to meet the learning needs of teachers from primary and secondary schools for continuing education. The teachers can choose the appropriate course to study and obtain their corresponding elective study hours for continuing education.
Party secretary of Guangzhou RTVU Zhang Xiaohua believes that the model is a wonderful innovation in exploring new paths and new ways of building a learning society, and has also set an example and offered some experience for other cities around the country to follow, to advocate, and to replicate.
