On October 16, 2014, the teaching discussion activity called “charming lecture”, which will last throughout the year, started in Fujian Radio and TV University (RTVU). The first lecture was given by three teachers from the English Department and the Department of Teaching Administration.

The three teachers each gave their “charming lecture” according to the micro-lecture distance learning model. According to the teaching characteristics of the three teachers and their own teaching experience, judges, fellow teachers, and the audience discussed their teaching in respect to teaching design, media presentation, teaching manner, distant interaction, and resource application habits.

The three teachers all agree that this activity has a free academic atmosphere, and the teaching and research interaction goes well. They think that this activity provides a platform for teachers to share feelings, communicate teaching skills, and to present and improve themselves. Thus the two-fold goal of teaching competition and process supervision can be achieved.

The “charming lecture” is an overall training programme of Fujian RTVU, aiming to enhance teachers’ team construction, improve teachers’ teaching ability and teaching level, and strengthen supervision and management in the teaching process of distance education. The activity reaches all teaching staff, including full-time and part-time teachers, and tries to accomplish its stated purpose of “one person, one subject, one lecture, and one discussion” in one year. In order to promote the development of the work, Fujian RTVU established the discussion leading group, with Chen Zhanhong, the vice-president, being the team leader. Judges consist of school leaders, members of the teaching quality monitoring committee from the university, and external experts. Peer judges are selected from among teachers who are not chief course instructors from different departments.
