Recently, new school term has started in the branches of Chongqing Radio and TV University (Chongqing RTVU). To make the newcomers know and understand open learning and to encourage them to value the learning opportunities, Professor Guo Qing, President of Chongqing RTVU, gave them the first class via a video clip, sending them messages on “constructing a great life pattern.”

On behalf of the school, Guo Qing extended a welcome and congratulations to the new comers. He said that Chongqing RTVU is a university available to ordinary people with learners at the centre. It is committed to serving students’ progress and career development. The alumni of the university are engaged in all trades and professions throughout Chongqing, and some of them have become prominent in society. As autonomous learning supported by tutoring predominates at the RTVU, the students have more freedom in learning, but they also need to be more conscious in learning. Teachers of Chongqing RTVU will make constant efforts and work conscientiously to make learning more “practical, convenient and interesting” for the students, so that the students can benefit more from their learning. It is his hope to see the students not only acquire knowledge but also improve their ability at Chongqing RTVU. What is more important is to make learning broader and provide professional space for the students, to construct their greater life pattern and to arouse higher future aspirations during their exchanges with the teachers. 

At the opening ceremony, all the teachers and students in each branch school watched TV and listened to Quo Qing’s cordial messages. They felt refreshed, affectionate enthusiastic and greatly inspired at the same time.

At the School of Open Education, Associate Professor Zeng Jun from Chongqing University of Medical Sciences expressed his feelings like this, “I have taught in the RTVU for 12 years, but it’s the first time I have felt so closely a president’s attention to and respect for teaching. It’s also the first time that I learnt that 1 out of every 100 people in Chongqing has studied in the RTVU. I take great pride in this.”

In Fuling RTVU, all the teachers and students watched the clip and felt the attention and expectation of all the faculty of the RTVU education system. According to newcomers at Beibei Study Centre, they have actually felt the president’s concern and solicitude for them in the first class of the new school term.
