After the special online training seminar for national cadres of the Central Organization Department’s classroom was moved to the OUC, 50 trainees from the seminar for cadre education in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region also came to the Open University of China (OUC) on 26 September 2014.
In Hainan, Vice President of the OUC Zhang Shaogang organized nine departments from the headquarters of the OUC to carry out synergistic distance teaching for workers in charge of cadre education in Inner Mongolia and Hainan via the cloud classroom system.
Zhang Shaogang introduced online cadre education at the OUC. He said that, against the background of building lifelong learning for everyone, serving the needs of cadres for online learning was part of the OUC’s historic task and duty. The OUC carries out continuous exploration and practice for this purpose. A number of branches have expanded their social service functions, actively cooperated with local Organizational Departments, and set up platforms for online cadre training. A new model using distance education methods to carry out large-scale and multi-layer training for cadres has been jointly explored in the whole school running system. Today, this model is widely accepted and has become one of the models for online training for cadre education.
With the theme of “Hardware, software, latent ware and integrableware: Digitization of open and distance education”, teachers from departments including the Party Committee Office, Informational Technology Department (Research and Development Centre for Digital Learning), Credit Bank Office and Digital Learning Resources Centre introduced the state of application of information technology at the OUC to trainees, covering mobile learning applications, WeChat information inquiry and retrieval, credit bank construction, micro lecture construction, and courses experiences.
Trainees also visited the OUC’s the framework of education digitization and the “The Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education: From Radio and TV Universities to The Open University of China” history exhibition. They also experienced the time-space interaction experience system including three-dimensional rendering of teaching by senior scholars and multi-user distance collaborative testing, experienced the multi-terminal applications of cloud classrooms, and carried out instructional interaction by the OUC’s Nanhai Experimental School. They had the chance to observe a recording system that can automatically transform teaching content into courseware; check out the digital library of e-books and e-journals, and access the “Open Books” of the OUC’s mobile library via their phones; experience 3D oil painting, 3D printing and 3D distance teaching; and observe a case study of distance 3D printing by teachers from middle and primary schools in Tibet.
