In a recent effort to support full-time and part-time teachers of the provincial Radio and TV University (RTVU) system, Fujian RTVU launched the second provincial RTVU system microlecture contest.
With the objective of “putting more emphasis on education and teaching, promoting curriculum practice and construction via contests, and showcasing the different styles of individual teachers”, the contest was aimed to enhance the provincial RTVU system teachers’ expertise in teaching ability and curriculum construction, to promote the integration of teaching teams with the strategic transformation of the universities, while at the same time encouraging the renewal of teaching ideas, reinforcing the deep application of modern educational technology in the teaching of subjects, and speeding up the pace of construction of curriculum resources.
The contest was divided into the preliminaries, semi-finals, and finals. In the preliminary round, the schools and department of Fujian RTVU and the branches of various RTVUs organized all of their teachers to participate, forming a great wave of job training for the all of the employees. In the semifinals, the Fujian RTVU will organize specialists to choose the works of the contestants for the semifinals and announce the list of contestants for the final competition. Compared with the first provincial RTVU system microlecture contest, this contest has reinforced the supervision of contest procedures of each geographic division. A series of supportive discussions and training on new academic frontiers in teaching and microlectures have been planned, both at home and abroad.
Vice president of Fujian RTVU Chen Zhanhong emphasized that in the new period of distance education development, the academic discussion about microlectures and the teaching of microlectures has been unusually fervent. Through front-line “micro” teaching practices and their further refinement, the activities will effectively promote the teaching skills in distance education for the majority of teachers from RTVU system, and give impetus to the development of university research into relative teaching methods, academic level of disciplines of teachers, and the construction of learning resources.
Fujian RTVU hosted the first provincial RTVU system microlecture contest in April of 2012, which gained wide attention in the distance education industry. In order to further promote distance teaching, Fujian RTVU made the decision to hold the teaching contest every two years, with the goal being to comprehensively promote the teachers’ teaching abilities and resource construction in the provincial RTVU system.
