In order to further deepen the reform of integrated practical education offered to advertising major and enrich the cultural life of the campus, the Department of Humanity, Law and Arts at Xi’an Radio and TV University (RTVU) recently held an exhibition of its advertising major’s graduation projects. The theme of this year’s show was “Inspiration from Life & Character Cultivation.”
The exhibition lasted for two weeks and featured more than 50 projects. A great many faculty and students viewed the exhibitionm and were invited to indicate those they felt were particularly deserving of merit.
This exhibition had the following main features:
Firstly, the exhibition is social and educational, and exemplifies the characteristics and spirit of our times. Its topics include environmental protection, public welfare and education, coinciding with the hot topics in contemporary society. The topic of environmental protection particularly inspired the faculty and students’ sense of responsibility for the world around them. The public poster, “Happiness from Generation to Generation,” offers an excellent example of this principle. After viewing it, many teachers and students expressed the feeling that its philosophy of the “Unity of Man and Nature” fits today’s society. While we enjoy the convenience of modern life, we should also recognize our overuse of natural resources. If we desire happiness that is sustainable from generation to generation, we need to start from living simpler lives and supporting environmental protection.
Secondly, the exhibition shows the students’ creativity and practical ability. Based on students’ rigorous academic and professional experience at Xi’an RTVU, the exhibition provides a chance for students to show their ability to both create advertisements and to apply theory in practice. Students who participated in the exhibition point out that this exhibition enhanced their creative thinking ability and strengthened their communication and interpersonal skills. These benefits will have a positive effect on their future careers and personal lives.
Last but not least, being both decorative and artistic, the exhibition cultivated students’ appreciation of beauty. Through the public exhibition on campus, the exhibition also provided a visual feast for the teachers and students of Xi’an RTVU, which not only enriched the cultural life of their campus, but also developed their experience with education reform and provided new ideas for teaching innovation.
