A few days ago, the Citizens Learning Centre of Chengdu Radio and TV University (RTVU) witnessed 160 of its disabled students from districts and counties around Chengdu gathered together to celebrate the first 66 graduated from Chengdu RTVU School for the Disabled who were conferred with their graduation certificates.
The awards ceremony for 2012 the Open University of China’s (OUC, aka China Central Radio and TV University, CCRTVU) “Sunshine Scholarship” and the 2012 Chengdu RTVU School for the Disabled’s Scholarship was held at the same time.
Zhou Jiping, President of Chengdu RTVU, together with Miao Peibing, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection; Li Yi, Deputy Party Secretary and Director of the Education and Employment Department of Chengdu Disabled Persons’ Federation; and Yang Zhixiao, Vice Dean of the School for the Disabled attended the graduation ceremony.
Yang Zhixiao extended his congratulations to the graduates on behalf of Long Rongrong, Party Secretary and Chairman of Chengdu Disabled Persons’ Federation, and Dean of the School for the Disabled. He encouraged the graduates to apply what they had learned in their everyday lives. He hopes that the graduates will encourage more disabled people to enter further education, in order to help them integrate themselves into society.
Zhou Jiping also gave his congratulations. He mentioned that one of his relatives is disabled, so he has a special understanding of the hardships they face. He told the graduates that graduation represents the start of a new life. He also noted that the school would always provide a strong backing and act as a spiritual homeland for them and he welcomed the graduates to come back to visit.
