Hunan RTVU’s Yuemiao Literary Prize awards ceremony was held on November 27, 2013. The Prize was donated by and named after alumnus Liu Yuemiao. 19 prize-winning alumni and teachers and students gather to witness the ceremony.

The Yuemiao Literary Prize is the first to be donated by a Hunan RTVU’s alumnus. Liu Yuemiao majored in Chinese language and literature at Hunan RTVU in 1982. In his school years, he won a provincial composition competition, inspiring him to take more interest in literature. Since graduation, he has published more than 10 literary works, including the novel “Stone Gambling” and the “An Eternal Mirror” collected essays. He also established an industry group, which was influential in business circles in Hunan province. In May 2013, he expressed a desire to do something to help his alma mater. He proposed to donate fund to set up some awards to award those RTVU’s students who are eager to make creations in literature.

When the news emerged that Hunan RTVU would hold a selection stage for the first Yuemiao Literary Prize, many alumni sent articles to apply for the prize. 62 works were recommended by provincial branch schools of RTVUs for the selection stage, from which 19 prize-winning works were selected. Among them were influential works from Hunanese literary circles, including the collected essays “A Narrative of Western Hunan” by Nie Yuansong, the drama “Priceless Affection” by Gu Jing, and the prose poem “The Black Horse” by Luo Yaoqing. At the awarding ceremony, the award-winning alumni were filled with strong passion about the practice that their mother school helped them realize the dreams of literary creation, and expressed their gratitude toward their mother school.

Well-known contemporary author Han Shaogong praised the Yuemiao Literary Prize and commented on the award-winning works as an expert.

Peng Yuan, President of Hunan RTVU; Liu Yanlin, experienced President-level supervisor; Du Chunzi, former president, and alumnus Liu Yuemiao attended the ceremony, which was hosted by Vice President Peng Simao.
