To thoroughly study and implement the decisions and deployments of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and to carry out the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech at the National Conference on Education and his important exposition on aging, the “Healthy and Happy China Tour” of the Open University of China (OUC) (aka the Seniors University of China, SUC) saw its first stop of “TCM Master Lectures” kick off in Beijing on 31 October 2024.

Wang Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and distinguished TCM master, delivered a keynote lecture. Xu Mingjun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the OUC (SUC), and Pu Chuanwen, a special-appointed expert of the SUC, participated in the event. Approximately 200 people attended the event, including veteran comrades from various departments of central and state organs, such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Radio and Television Administration, and the General Administration of Sport, as well as student representatives from the Weigongcun Campus of the SUC. The event was hosted by Liu Caimei, dean of the Seniors College of the SUC.

Xu Mingjun attended the event and delivered a speech.

Xu Mingjun highlighted that the SUC has leveraged its systemic advantages to continuously enhance its operational mechanisms, expand its service scope, and strengthen its social impact by adhering to the educational tenet of “Virtue, Learning, Health, Happiness and Accomplishment”. This approach ensures that the development of elderly education progresses with both speed and warmth, effectively meeting the seniors' needs for lifelong learning. This tour lecture not only serves as an active response to the united initiative of the MOE’s “Happy Learning and Respecting the Elderly” but also represents a key step by the SUC in proactively supporting the elderly population and advancing high-quality elderly education.

Pu Chuanwen participated in the event.

Pu Chuanwen introduced the background of the "TCM Master Lectures". Guided by the principle of "Proactive Health with TCM as the Priority”, the SUC has produced the first batch of "TCM Master Lectures" with high standards and quality. These lectures bring together several TCM masters and expert teams, and are specially designed with teaching content that is easy to understand and practical, guiding learners to interpret the wisdom of TCM in plain language. The lectures are simultaneously launched on multiple ports via the National Education Platform for the Elderly, offering a convenient and inclusive one-stop access and comprehensive coverage.

Wang Qi delivered a thematic lecture.

Wang Qi delivered a thematic lecture on the “Six Scientific Aspects of Health and Longevity”. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of TCM, supported by numerous scientific research findings and practical examples, he expounded on the relationships between health and longevity and six scientific factors: life goals, moderate exercise, emotional regulation, balanced diet, regional environment, and harmonious physique.

Since its establishment, the SUC has consciously served national strategies and contributed to the construction of a learning society and country where lifelong education is pursued by all. It is committed to becoming the "main channel" for elderly education, a "strong guide" for proactive health, and a "catalyst" for the silver economy. This event showcases the university’s efforts to build a proactive health brand of the SUC and expand the reach and impact of its high-quality course offerings.
