On 9 April 2024, Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Open University of China (OUC, also known as Seniors University of China, SUC), led a delegation to Gansu Open University to investigate elderly education efforts and unveil the plaque for the Gansu Branch of SUC.
Wang Zhongxian, Party Committee secretary of Gansu Open University, Deng Xiaojuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president, Wei Binghai, a member of the Party Committee and vice president, along with Ling Junhui, director of the Department of Vocational Education and Adult Education of the Gansu Education Department, attended the elderly education work seminar.
Deng Xiaojuan briefed the educational situation at Gansu Open University, while Wei Binghai highlighted the characteristics and achievements of elderly education at the university, identifying current issues and outlining future strategies and measures.
Liu Xuanxuan provided a comprehensive overview of the achievements made by SUC since its inception, emphasising SUC’s plans to vigorously promote the "Ten Major Actions" in the future. She also commended Gansu Open University for its recent accomplishments in promoting elderly education within the province, proposing recommendations to advance high-quality development of elderly education, including jointly developing high-quality courses, sharing public service platforms, and implementing collaborative work mechanisms.
Wang Zhongxian expressed gratitude for SUC's longstanding support to Gansu Open University and suggested three future development points for the Gansu Branch of SUC: accelerating the enhancement of the provincial elderly education network, focusing on improving educational capacity and building featured courses and teacher teams, and expanding elderly education through diversified partnerships.
Additionally, Liu Xuanxuan attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Gansu Province and Tianshui City Lifelong Learning Week, visited Gansu Elderly University and Lanzhou Open University for on-site inspections, and researched the elderly education activities at these institutions.
During the seminar and business research, personnel from various departments of OUC (SUC) including the Resource Platform Centre, Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, Department of External Education and Training (Ministry of Education's Research and Training Centre for Community Education), and the General Office of the Party and Administration, along with staff from relevant departments of Gansu Open University were also present.
