Representatives from the Open University of China (OUC), specializing in Computer Science and Technology, recently attended the CIE 2023, the Fifth China IT Education Boao Forum, and the 20th Anniversary Conference of the Journal Computer Education.
This significant conference is co-guided by various teaching guidance committees under the Ministry of Education (MOE). These include the Guidance Committee for the Teaching of Computer Majors in Higher Education Institutions, the Guidance Committee for the Teaching of Software Engineering Majors in Higher Education Institutions, the Sub-Guidance Committee for the Teaching of Computer Science in Vocational Education under the Guidance Committee for the Teaching of Industry and Information Technology in Vocational Education, and the Guidance Committee for the Teaching of Computer Courses in Higher Education Institutions.
The conference, notable for its large scale and high standards, serves as an influential platform for integrating industry, education, and research in China's IT education sector. Its primary objective is to advance the introduction and development of new types of IT talent in China, nurture a new generation within the information technology industry, and contribute to the nation's innovation-driven development.
The participants attended presentations by approximately ten experts and scholars on the theme “Integration Between Industry and Education for Win-Win Supply and Demand.” Additionally, they participated in a sub-forum titled “Integrated Development of Open Education and Vocational Education,” where they engaged in in-depth discussions with various experts and scholars specializing in computer education. These discussions focused on the high-quality development of computer majors within the realm of open education.
Wang Ran, the executive deputy director of the OUC Credit Bank, delivered a keynote speech at the main forum on the topic "Research and Practice Exploration of the Credit Bank". In her address, she discussed the background of the Credit Bank's establishment within the context of building a learning society and positioning the country as a leader in education. She detailed the process, practical exploration, and outcomes in developing the Credit Bank, emphasising its role in providing new ideas and methods for innovating education development models.
At the "Integrated Development of Open Education and Vocational Education" sub-forum, Professor Wang Li from the School of Computer Science and Technology, Faculty of Science and Engineering, delivered a presentation titled "Cultivation of Talent in Innovation and Entrepreneurship within Computer-related Majors under the Open Education Pattern: Practice and Challenges." He addressed the topic through a data-driven perspective, highlighting the OUC's accomplishments in open education. Furthermore, he offered personal insights and recommendations regarding the practical exploration of nurturing talent in innovation and entrepreneurship within computer-related fields.
Professor Cui Lin from the School of Computer Science and Technology, Faculty of Science and Engineering, participated in the round table forum on 'Integration and Development of Open Education and Vocational Education', and conducted in-depth discussions with several experts and scholars in the field of open education on issues related to the integration and development of open education and vocational education.
The conference marked the 20th anniversary of the Journal of Computer Education. It was an opportunity to reflect on the progress and achievements in computer education over the past two decades. During the event, six categories of awards were presented, including the prestigious “Contribution Award for the Integration of Computer Education and Industry.” These awards were designed to recognise and honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of computer education.
In the open university system, notable achievements were celebrated with two teachers receiving the “Contribution Award for the Integration of Computer Education and Industry.” Four teachers were honoured with the “Contribution Award for the Development of Computer Education,” acknowledging their efforts in advancing the field. Additionally, six teachers were awarded the “Innovation Award for Computer Education Teaching,” highlighting their creative approaches in education. Lastly, five teachers received the “Practical Award for Computer Education Teaching,” recognising their effectiveness in applying practical skills in their teaching.
The OUC will persist in its efforts to foster a deep integration of industry and education within the realm of open education. It is committed to the continuous advancement of high-quality development in the fields of computer science and technology. Moreover, the OUC is dedicated to consistently nurturing talent who meet market demands, and will strengthen collaborations among industries, education, and research sectors to achieve mutual growth and development.
