To sustain the achievements in combating poverty through education, and to bolster educational support, Butuo County has strengthened its teacher workforce, focusing on enhancing the professional skills and teaching standards of key teachers.
On 13th November 2023, the advanced training course for key Chinese language teachers at elementary schools in Butuo County was launched. This initiative, sponsored by the Open University of China (OUC), had its inauguration ceremony conducted both offline and online. Li Guangde, dean of the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College), addressed the ceremony virtually. In attendance at the physical venue were Ma Wenxia, a Level I principal staff member from the Education and Sports Bureau of Liangshan Prefecture; Ashengergui, the secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the County-level Education, Sports and Science and Technology Bureau, who also serves as its director; and 60 key Chinese language teachers from elementary schools in the region.
At the launch ceremony, Li Guangde outlined the history and current status of the Open University of China (OUC), including its role in supporting education in Butuo County. He also shared background information about this training program and set forth expectations and requirements for the participants. Representing the Education and Sports Bureau of Liangshan Prefecture, Ma Wenxia expressed gratitude to OUC for its support in educating ethnic minorities. She encouraged all trainees to heighten their awareness, adhere strictly to discipline, and diligently improve their professional skills. Ashengergui highlighted that this training, a key initiative of OUC's support for Butuo County, demonstrated the university’s commitment to rural revitalization. He urged the trainees to value this opportunity and actively engage in learning and exchange activities to better themselves.
Following the launch ceremony, the trainees proceeded to the Second Elementary School in Xichang City to engage in a collaborative teaching and research activity with the studio of Men Limei, a Chinese language teacher at the school.
The training course encompasses a variety of components, including expert lectures, diverse teaching methods, task-driven presentations, different structures for the same lesson, lesson reviews, exchanges and discussions, and an on-site test. Rich in content and diverse in form, this training will significantly enhance the professional skills and teaching abilities of the attending educators. Moreover, it promises to inject fresh momentum into the high-quality development of the educational sector in Butuo County.
