Recently, a symposium was hosted to welcome the 2023 freshman of the graduate programme in Marxist Theory, a joint initiative between the Open University of China (OUC) and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJU) at BJU.
This event also served as a platform for open dialogue between students and faculty. The purpose of the meeting was to further solidify the cooperative agreement between the two institutions and clarify details for the second session of the joint graduate programme. Notable attendees included Cao Guoyong, the executive deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee, and Wen Haitao, the deputy secretary of the BJU Party Committee.
The two sides reviewed the progress of their collaborative efforts in graduate cultivation over the past year. They also exchanged views on strengthening resource sharing, emphasising the unique characteristics of the training, and enhancing the quality of the training.
Cao Guoyong has highlighted that the collaborative training of graduates plays a crucial role in promoting the advancement of the Marxist theory discipline. This is pivotal for the growth of the School of Marxism, its disciplinary construction, and the training of students. The Party Committees of both universities have shown immense appreciation and have extended robust support in areas like curriculum development, academic exchanges, resource allocation, and faculty assurance. The nurturing of talent at the graduate level is cyclical. Therefore, the joint training initiative should not only underscore the distinctive features of Marxist theory but should also meld the unique educational approaches of both OUC and BJU. The ultimate goal is to invest significant effort in enhancing the quality of talent cultivation and achieving remarkable outcomes.
Wen Haitao observed that joint training between the two institutions greatly enhances the quality of graduate-level talent development. He hopes that the two bodies will intensify their communication and collaboration, leveraging practical training resources based on a refined system and framework. The impact of this joint training initiative can then be expanded throughout the broader scope of the School of Marxism.
The students in attendance all agreed to adhere to the training plan's requirements. They are committed to embracing every challenge and refining their skills to enhance their overall quality, always striving to reach their full potential.
BJU attendees at the event included Gao Zhengli, dean of the School of Marxism; Han Zhenfeng, head of the first-level doctoral programme in Marxist theory; He Yufang, in charge of the first-level master's programme in Marxist theory; and Li Xiaodong, supervisor of the joint training programme. From OUC, the attendees were Wang Huaichao, a distinguished professor from the School of Marxism; Liu Chen, the former deputy secretary of the Party Committee; Sun Fuwan, a professor from the School of Marxism; and Chen Kun, vice dean of the School of Marxism. Additionally, eight graduate students who joined the programme in 2022 and 2023 were present. The meeting was chaired by Sun Dongmei, the secretary of the Party Committee at BJU.
