On 26 May 2023, the talent training project for the rehabilitation assistive product industry was launched in Beijing.
The project, sponsored by the Open University of China (OUC) and the China Association of Assistive Products (CAAP), is being undertaken by the OUC Department of External Education and Training and the Training School of Rehabilitation Assistive Products. Simultaneously, from 26 to 28 May, vocational skills training for rehabilitation assistive technology consultants was conducted.
Ju Chuanjin, director of the Research and Training Centre for Community Education of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and chairman of the OUC Education Foundation, along with Jiao Jialing, deputy head of the Disabled Persons' Welfare Division of the Social Affairs Department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA), Mao Yong, secretary-general of CAAP, and Dong Ming, promotional ambassador for the Beijing Paralympic Games, attended the launching ceremony and delivered speeches. The event was presided over by Lyu Qian, deputy director of the OUC Department of External Education and Training. The training saw the participation of over 120 management and staff members from enterprises in the rehabilitation assistive product industry, as well as individuals from elderly care, medical care, education, and assistive product rental institutions.
Ju Chuanjin emphasized that 2023 marks the first year of fully implementing the guiding principles from the Party's 20th National Congress and serves as a crucial transitional year for the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan. The OUC Training School of Rehabilitation Assistive Products should wholeheartedly embrace General Secretary Xi Jinping's proposal from the Party's 20th National Congress to pursue a proactive national strategy in response to population aging. It should also actively respond to the requirements outlined in the relevant documents of the State Council. The school is encouraged to establish training standards and courses that align with societal needs, thereby nurturing industry professionals who are practical, skilled, and innovative.
Dong Ming expressed her profound appreciation for the training on rehabilitation assistive products, acknowledging her personal connection as a witness, beneficiary, and participant in the OUC's development of such products. She emphasized that numerous students, much like herself, who possess a deep passion for learning, have realized their dreams of attending university. Dong Ming pledged to remain faithful to her initial aspirations within the field of education and to wholeheartedly dedicate herself to advancing the training of talents for the rehabilitation assistive product industry.
The project's launch will address the talent shortage in the rehabilitation assistive product industry by providing skilled professionals with practical expertise. This initiative will contribute to the enhancement of China's rehabilitation service system and elevate the quality of services offered to the elderly, disabled individuals, and those who are injured or ill. Moreover, it will energetically propel the industry towards high-quality development.
