On 4th April 2023, in order to enhance the Open University of China's ability to train high-level talent and conduct scientific research, a delegation led by the school's Party Committee member and vice president Fan Xianrui went to Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) to exchange and discuss ideas.

They attended the inauguration ceremony of the joint graduate education base and held a discussion with the first batch of graduate students. The deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of TUST, Lu Fuping, as well as other relevant officials, attended the meeting.

 

During the meeting, Fan Xianrui introduced the historical development of the OUC and the new tasks and opportunities of the current digital university construction. He explained the various measures taken by the school to serve the construction of a lifelong education system and to implement the national education digitalization strategy. He hoped that the OUC Engineering Centre of the school and the College of Artificial Intelligence of the TUST would fully leverage their respective strengths through this joint graduate education program. By taking high-level scientific research cooperation as the main focus, they could rely on the OUC’s system of education and large-scale online education practice scenarios, strengthen the integration of discipline construction, talent cultivation, and scientific research, continuously enhance the practical application ability of graduate students, and further promote the integration of industry and education as well as the fusion of science and education.

Lu Fuping pointed out that since the cooperation began, the two universities have actively and orderly promoted the construction of high-level scientific research teams, interdisciplinary groups, and the joint education of the first 15 graduate students. In the new era, the OUC will play a more important role in building a learning society and a learning-oriented country for lifelong education. In the future, the TUST hopes to open up more in-depth and extensive cooperation with the OUC in terms of faculty exchange, talent cultivation, and the construction of high-level artificial intelligence bases.
