On 28 December 2022, the Engineering Research Centre for Technology Integration and Application of E-Learning of the Ministry of Education ("Engineering Centre” for short) held a meeting to discuss the year’s work and plan for that of 2023, aiming to implement the guidance of the 20th National Congress of the CPC and to aid the development of digitalisation at the Open University of China (OUC).

Fan Xianrui, OUC vice president and director of the Engineering Centre, attended, and Li Jing, deputy director of the centre, presided.

Fan Xianrui pointed that, as an open university serving lifelong learning and committed to promoting in-depth integration of modern IT into education, the OUC is embracing both opportunities and challenges. She praised the work of the Centre, and stressed that it should clarify its position, establish a new mindset, and work steadfastly to solve problems, pursue objectives, and promote the university’s high-quality IT-based development. She also added that research should be conducted in an orderly manner to tackle difficulties, enhance learner development, and improve the quality of research at the university.

The attendees offered their own perspectives on how to promote IT at the OUC. Their suggestions included strengthening system construction for the centre, clarifying its IT orientation, enhancing its academic aspects, and holding academic seminars and forums. They found the meeting inspirational, as well as useful in establishing a common understanding, and promised to support the IT strategy of the university and the cause of building a society and country of learning where lifelong learning is pursued by all.
