The Open University of China (OUC) held a meeting to promote teaching reforms on 11 October 2022. The meeting was attended by Li Song, OUC vice president, teaching and teaching-management personnel, the Experimental School, the Information Technology Department, and the Credit Bank, with Gu Xiaohua, director of the Academic Affairs Department, presiding.
The teaching departments and Experimental School reported on the development of majors in collaboration with enterprises, construction of small majors, development of ideological and political teaching, use of livestreaming, the creation of “quality lectures by famous teachers”, virtual practical-resource construction, integration of degree and non-degree education, enhancement of teacher skills, reform of technology-enabled “smart” education, and so on. The teaching-management departments, Information Technology Department, and Credit Bank reported on teaching reforms, training of teaching teams, quality assurance, criteria for curriculum development, digital empowerment, data service, accreditation and transfer of learning outcomes, and so on.
Li Song praised their work and stated that the OUC is in a new stage of transformation, with more people gaining opportunities for education. The key to success for open universities lies in being able to meet personalised learner needs. Teachers are essential to teaching reforms, and should focus on fostering virtue through education, improving quality, teaching based on student needs, and an orientation toward real-world problems and objectives. The teaching-management departments, meanwhile, should focus on both management and service of teaching departments, helping them with problems and with new approaches. Li also emphasised the importance of communication among teaching departments so that their shared experiences can be used to promote reforms.
