Recently, in order to better implement the MOE’s paired assistance work, the Open University of China (OUC) held a symposium to pay tribute to the first secretary and rural teachers stationed in the village of Wei County, Hebei Province via the video link. Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of the OUC, attended the meeting.
Liu Chen said that the Party Committee of the OUC attached great importance to rural revitalisation work. On behalf of the Party Committee of the OUC, he expressed his gratitude to relevant departments and comrades in Wei County for the support and assistance they have given to the first secretary stationed in the village, and put forward three requirements: paired assistance for the grassroots Party building; effective supply and demand of paired assistance in the countryside; and development of the open education cause.
The meeting introduced Wei County and Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County in Hebei Province, as well as a report on the work delivered by Dr Li Ruifu, first secretary of Weijiazhai Village in Wei County. Geng Shangyan, deputy director of Wei County Education Bureau, introduced the education situation in Wei County. He said that with the support and assistance of the Ministry of Education and the OUC, Wei County’s education work has developed significantly, and the OUC’s care for rural teachers in Wei County will definitely inspire local rural teachers to root deeper into the countryside, develop rural education, and help revitalise rural areas.
Yuan Wei, director of the OUC Organisation Department/Human Resources Department (Talent Exchange Centre) of the OUC; Hu Xing, executive vice president of the OUC Labour Union; Li Guangde and Zhao Tingting, dean and vice dean of the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College); and relevant staff members from the Rural Revitalisation College attended the meeting at the OUC. Representatives of Wei County Education Bureau, Pandian Primary School and Weijiazhai Village, members of the two committees of Weijiazhai Village and members of the village workforce, and other relevant personnel attended the meeting at Weijiazhai Village in Wei County. The meeting was presided over by Yuan Wei.
In order to actively implement the major decisions of the CPC Party Central Committee and the State Council on winning the battle against poverty and implementing the rural revitalisation strategy, as well as implement the relevant work requirements of the Ministry of Education, since 2017, the OUC has carried out a series of educational support activities for Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County and Wei County in Hebei Province, with total funding of about RMB 7.6 million, directly benefiting nearly 6,000 people.
