On 7 September 2022, the Open University of China (OUC) hosted a lecture on cybersecurity. Mr Yang Weiping, deputy director of Cybersecurity Division of the Centre of Educational Management Information and the Assessment Centre of Classified Safety Protection for Educational Information of the Ministry of Education, spoke on Cybersecurity Risks and Countermeasures in Education Systems.

The lecture was attended by about 550 OUC staff members from its headquarters and branches, both onsite and via video link, with Ren Ran, deputy director of the OUC Information Technology Department, presiding.

 

Yang Weiping began with an introduction to cybersecurity incidents that have occurred in education systems, encouraging the audience to stay alert to cybersecurity issues. Then he discussed how to approach this issue, and explained the situation of cybersecurity in education systems in terms of politics, law, and livelihoods. He stated that substantial efforts should be made to guarantee their cybersecurity, with measures taken to improve management and guarantee the safety life cycle, covering the security of algorithms and supply chains while ensuring the presence of qualified personnel and appropriate funding. He also provided specific advice on cybersecurity measures in daily work.

Cybersecurity is essential to all of us, and this event allowed the OUC to promote it, educating staff about its importance, and aiming to create a civilised, harmonious and positive campus.
