At 10:00 am on 28 February 2022, Li Song, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the Open University of China (OUC), delivered the “First Class" on the topic of “Learning at the OUC for a Future Dream”, reaching all OUC students and staff via live video to launch the 2022 spring semester.

Li Song said that the OUC is a new type of university offering open education in both urban and rural areas nationwide, including online ideological and political education and both degree and non-degree options. Over its 40 years, the OUC has stuck to its ideal of “showing respect for education and making it universally beneficial; providing education for all people with no distinctions”via advances in communications along with top-quality teaching. This has gained it international recognition.

Li Song indicated that learning and ethical guidance go hand in hand at the OUC, where all-round development in terms of temperament, thinking and skills is promoted.

He reiterated that clear goals, responsibility, full use of courses and resources, and independent learning are all essential to this.

Li Song ended by praising OUC's five-minute courses, streaming classes, renowned teachers, single-course registration, digital library, community education network, and other features.

About a million teachers and students from the OUC headquarters, branches, colleges and schools watched via the OUC cloud classroom, the OUC Bilibili station, the OUC Kuaishou number, the Xinhuanet Xinhua number, the Huixuexi app, the OUC online live class, the OUC TikTok, the OUC Baidu live-stream, and other channels.

Afterward, most of the audience agreed that the event had enhanced  cohesion and morale, with teachers saying it had inspired them to serve their students heart and soul, and students that the resources of the OUC will allow them to aim high through hard work and self-discipline.
