The review process for the Open University of China (OUC) 2013 scholarships came to an end today. A total of 8,904 OUC students were awarded scholarships. Among them, 7,725 students were granted OUC scholarships, 579 students won OUC “Field of Hope” scholarships, 100 students won the Sunlight Scholarship for Special Education of the OUC (Education for the Disabled), and 500 were granted Scholarship for Non-Commissioned Officers.
A total of 8,904 scholarship winners came from 40 different provincial Radio and TV Universities (RTVUs, aka Open Universities), the OUC Experimental School, and the OUC School of Tibet, covering 1,457 teaching sites, and involving 73 majors. The OUC scholarships were awarded based on academic excellence, outstanding work performance, and the applicants' positive contributions to society. The scholarships were awarded to each applicant based on their own merits. Some students employ scientific and logical learning methods, excelling at self-directed learning via the Internet and multi-media resources, and able to properly handle the relationship between work and study and have achieved great results in their studies; some are good at putting theory into practice and have shown outstanding performance in their work, some have even received many national and provincial level awards; some devote themselves to the development of the rural areas, and helped many in these rural areas to grow rich; some, though physically disabled, are mentally strong, working hard to be equipped with the knowledge necessary to face challenges; some, as military officers, study hard to improve their overall quality while simultaneously fulfilling their combat readiness duties and training support tasks, even winning awards from Regional Military Headquarters. The achievements of the scholarship winners reflect the inspiring and hardworking spirit of the students of the OUC, their determination to forge ahead, and their pursuit of excellence.
2013 OUC Scholarship pilot work was officially launched in January 2014. The provincial RTVUs (Open Universities) who participated in the pilot work attached great importance to this work, and carefully organized the scholarship applications, conducted trial reviews at the teaching sites, as well as review work at the provincial RTVUs (Open Universities). On July 16, 2014, the OUC organized the expert review and held a final review of the candidate's credentials submitted by at the provincial RTVUs (Open Universities).
