In order to set a good example for young people and help foster positive ideals, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation have presented the 17th annual “China May 4 Youth Medal” to 27 members, and conferred nominations on five members. Two students from the radio and TV universities (RTVUs), Zhi Zhiyi and Chen Jianfa, were presented with the medal and received a nomination respectively.
Zhi Zhiyi, born in August 1983, is a female member of the CPC. She majored in law and graduated from China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU) with a bachelor’s degree. She is now the deputy political commissar of Hezhou Municipal Public Security Bureau’s Narcotics Team and deputy leader of Babu District Public Security Bureau’s Narcotics Brigade in Guangxi.
Despite her small frame, Zhi has fought courageously against a number of armed robberies and drug trafficking cases. She has arrested more than 100 criminals and has been wounded four times while on duty. In 2012, she was stabbed in the liver and stomach. Although she was in tremendous pain, she continued to pursue the criminal for dozens of meters, leading many Internet users to give her the title of “fearless sister”. She sincerely cares about the welfare and living conditions of drug addicts and encourages them to quit drugs and start a new life.
Chen Jianfa, born in December 1973, is a male member of the CPC. He graduated from CCRTVU Kunming Railway Bureau Branch. He is now a technician in the Kunming Communication and Signal Division of Kunming Railway Bureau.
Chen has been responsible for the design of a number of innovative technical projects, such as modifying the heat insulation and dissipation system of radar cases for Kunming East Railway Station. Many of his projects have been widely adopted, for example, anti-wear support pads for switch machines that can save up to 200,000 yuan per year. Kunming Railway Bureau named a national laboratory after Chen, the only national-level laboratory within the railway system that carries the name of an individual. In addition, Chen has led colleagues in writing 43 instruction manuals, regarded by other technicians as a portable “technical treasury”.
