WANG Qide, Han ethnicity, is a member of the Communist Party of China and has served as a deputy to the 12th, 13th and 14th National People’s Congress (NPC). He graduated from the Law undergraduate programme at Sichuan Open University. He currently serves as President of Wulang County Yellow Goat and Hongqi Pig Breeding Cooperative in Sichuan Province. He was honoured as a “National 10th Entrepreneurial Star” and elected a National Model Worker in 2020.
WANG was born in Nanjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province, located in the heart of the Qinba Mountains. While working away from home, he received a letter from the local government to all the migrant workers, which informed him of preferential policies encouraging rural migrant workers to return home and start businesses. Inspired by this policy, WANG returned to establish a poverty alleviation mutual aid cooperative and a Nanjiang Yellow Goat breeding cooperative. Moreover, he has subsequently built goat farms, pig farms, and vegetable industrial parks.
WANG said, "No matter how well an industry develops, if it cannot increase local people's income or lift them out of poverty, it cannot be considered successful." After achieving prosperity through the yellow goat breeding industry, he focused on how to make it a pillar industry for poverty alleviation, enabling others to raise goats and escape poverty, thereby contributing to rural revitalisation.
Through field visits to farmland, door-to-door household surveys, and meetings with various units, WANG conducted in-depth analyses of project feasibility and market acceptance. He recognised his village's favourable conditions for raising yellow goats. Ultimately, he decided to leverage local specialty agricultural resources including Nanjiang Yellow Goats, pigs, and vegetables, choosing a new path of ecological and standardised development. He explored and implemented differentiated benefit-linking mechanisms tailored to various types of farmers, turning Nanjiang Yellow Goats into veritable "wealth-generated goats."
From goat herder to NPC deputy, WANG said, "If raising goats fulfilled my entrepreneurial dream, it is leading everyone to prosperity through establishing and operating the breeding cooperative that has realised my life value."
During this year's Two Sessions, WANG plans to submit suggestions related to rural revitalisation. "I hope more people can increase their income and achieve prosperity through raising Nanjiang Yellow Goats. With joint efforts from the government and enterprises, we can write a successful story of how this local specialty product generates wealth for the people."
