Qingdao, 17-18 November 2025 – The Open University of China (OUC) held 2nd New Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Qingdao, Shandong. The event aims to implement the deployment of Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education and elevate students’ innovative competency. It was attended by LIU Xuanxuan, Deputy Secretary of CPC OUC Committee, and LI Minggang, Secretary of CPC Qingdao Open University Committee. LIU Zhifang, Dean of OUC's School of Economics and Management, presided over the Opening Ceremony.



In her address, LIU Xuanxuan stressed that General Secretary XI Jinping has emphasised the importance of understanding national conditions and enhancing wisdom and talent through the innovation and entrepreneurship. She highlighted OUC's commitment to fostering students' innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities in line with XI’s directive. The competition, she said, is of great significance for improving the quality of talent cultivation in open education. Moving forward, to promote high-quality innovative education in open universities, it is essential to strengthen value-based education, solidify innovation foundations, deepen cross-disciplinary integration, reshape knowledge systems, improve support mechanisms, and create a fertile environment for innovation.
After intense competition, 19 teams were qualified to finals. The judging panel evaluated the projects based on five criteria: personal growth, innovation, industrial value, teamwork, and presentation skills. The top honour went to a project from the Wuhan branch. The Qingdao and Anhui branches won the second place. The third-place went to projects from Shandong, Qingdao, Anhui, Zhejiang branches, as well as from the OUC Experimental College and Changchun branch. In addition, special awards including the Most Popular Project, the Most Commercially Valuable Project, and the Most Socially Valuable Project were presented.
A parallel workshop for experience sharing and discussion was held, with over 30 teachers from 26 branches exchanging ideas on nurturing high-quality projects and integrating competitions with teaching.
This competition showcased the innovation achievements in open education and served as a practical platform for learning through competition. Looking ahead, OUC is committed to organising the New Business Innovation Competition and exploring new talent-development pathways in this field.
