Huang Yusen enrolled in the junior college programme of Mechatronics Technology at the Guangzhou Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) in the fall of 2020 and currently serves as a teacher at Guangzhou Industry & Trade Technician College. He has won the gold medal in the CAD Mechanical Design project of the 47th World Skills Competition, the first-prize in both the group and individual categories of the 16th "Higher Education Cup" National College Students' Advanced Graphics Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition, and the gold medal in the "CAD Mechanical Design" of the Second National Vocational Skills Competition.
On 15 September 2024, the 47th WorldSkills Competition successfully concluded at the Olympic Stadium in Lyon, France. The Chinese delegation performed outstandingly in this competition, ranking first in the gold medal list, medal list, and overall team score. In this event known as the "World Skills Olympics", Huang Yusen, an outstanding alumnus of the OUC and a teacher at Guangzhou Industry & Trade Technician College, won the gold medal in the CAD Mechanical Design project of the 47th World Skills Competition, achieving a breakthrough from zero for China in this project.
In the fall of 2020, Huang Yusen applied for the Mechatronics Technology major at the OUC. Out of his strong interest in this major, during his study at school, he studied diligently and achieved excellent results, winning the recognition of his teachers and classmates. After rounds of selection, he became a member of the CAD elite class. During his time in the elite class, he trained hard and gradually defined his goal to strive for with the help of his teachers and classmates.
As the saying goes, "A long journey starts with a single step." During his school days, Huang Yusen participated in competitions many times and won a great deal of honours for his school. Each of his excellent achievements demonstrated his fighting spirit. From achieving small goals one after another to realising big goals one by one, he took every step firmly. In the third year at the CAD base, Huang Yusen participated in the "Second Guangdong Provincial Vocational Skills Competition" on behalf of Guangzhou City and won the gold medal. At the same time, he was awarded the title of "Skilled Technician of Guangdong Province" and was selected into the Guangdong provincial training team, thus embarking on the selection journey towards the World Skills Competition. During the one-year-long training period, Huang Yusen went to the base early every day to start training and returned to the dormitory very late. Although the day-after-day training was dull, he was enthusiastic about it and was determined to stand out and represent Guangdong Province in the Second National Skills Competition.
Hard work pays off. In the selection of the Guangdong provincial training team in 2023, Huang Yusen ranked first and won the qualification to participate in the Second National Skills Competition. When there were only a few months left before the Second National Skills Competition, Huang Yusen concentrated highly every day and dared not slack off at all, because this competition, for him, not only represented himself but also Guangdong Province, and was also an important breakthrough for sprinting towards the "World Skills Competition". He firmly believed that as long as he worked hard, he would surely win. In September 2023, Huang Yusen represented Guangdong Province to participate in the Second National Skills Competition. After three days of competition, he stood out from many competitors and won the gold medal.
Huang Yusen said that during the competition, one should not only find one's own shortcomings but also see the strengths of other competitors. After the competition, one should be brave enough to discuss and learn from each other with other competitors, and strive to improve one's own skills in every exchange and competition.
In January 2024, after graduation, Huang Yusen chose to enter Guangzhou Industry & Trade Technician College as a teacher. After changing from a student to a teacher, he led his students to move towards higher goals. For Huang Yusen, the most important goal at that time was to participate in the 47th World Skills Competition and achieve good results. To achieve this goal, he forgot to eat and sleep and trained hard, making full preparations for the competition.
Time does not disappoint those who pursue their dreams. In the CAD Mechanical Design project of the 47th World Skills Competition, Huang Yusen won the gold medal, which is also the first gold medal in the history of China in this project. This is not only a personal breakthrough for Huang Yusen but also makes Chinese skilled talent shine brightly on the world stage.
