Profile:
Zhong Tuanyu, She ethnicity, is from Fu’an, Fujian Province. She is a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress and is currently the vice president and secretary general of the She Ethnic Traditional Martial Arts Association in Fu’an City.
She also serves as the secretary of the Party Branch, director of the Village Committee, and Chairwoman of the Women’s Federation in Jindouyang Village, Kangcuo She Ethnic Township. She is a student majoring in administrative management with a focus on rural management at Fu’an Open University in the spring of 2022.
Zhong Tuanyu is a designated inheritor of the She ethnic martial arts (Fu'an Jindouyang She ethnic boxing), recognised as a crucial initiative for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage in Fujian Province.
In recent years, Zhong Tuanyu has devoted herself to preserving and promoting She family boxing. By raising funds to establish a research and practice base for She ethnic martial arts, she has been invited to teach She ethnic martial arts classes in primary and secondary schools. This has allowed Jin Douyang She Ethnic Boxing to emerge from small villages and further highlight the allure of intangible cultural heritage.
Zhong Tuanyu has inspired her fellow villagers to join hands in devising comprehensive projects that integrate agriculture, culture, and tourism development. She has coordinated events like "Young Cadres Going Down to the Grassroots," along with research excursions and team-building activities for Party and Youth League organisations, thereby making significant contributions to rural revitalisation.
During her tenure, Zhong Tuanyu has been actively engaged in a wide range of learning, training, and research activities, making the most of her position as a deputy and dedicating herself to serving as a voice for the people. She has put forth proposals like "Supporting Fu'an City in establishing the 'Ban-Zhong Model' to promote the creation of a demonstration area for national unity and prosperity enhancement" and "Advocating for the inclusion of the China-Indonesia (Ningde) Green Industry Park in national-level platforms or plans." These suggestions offer valuable perspectives for the development and welfare of the populace. Many of her recommendations have been recognised and adopted by the relevant authorities.
At this year's Two Sessions, Zhong Tuanyu put forward suggestions regarding the development of contiguous She ethnic areas, the healthy growth of minors, and children's medication safety. She proposed that the contiguous She ethnic areas in Fu'an City be designated as a pilot area for the State Ethnic Affairs Commission's "common modernization" initiative. This involves supporting the She ethnic aggregation areas in Fu'an City in implementing a pilot project focused on "contiguous development." Additionally, she called on judicial authorities to bolster comprehensive legal protection for minors to foster a peaceful social environment and a high-quality legal environment conducive to the healthy development of minors. Furthermore, she recommended standardizing the instructions for pediatric over-the-counter traditional Chinese medicines to enhance the safety of children's medication.
"As a grassroots deputy to the National People's Congress, I feel honoured and proud to represent the voices of rural grassroots communities at the conference," Zhong Tuanyu said.
