To implement the university's work plan for the thematic education campaign focused on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and to promote the implementation of the reading month activity, the Open University of China (OUC) organised a book sharing activity hosted by Liu Chen, a member of the OUC Party Committee and vice president.
The activity took place on the afternoon of 27 April 2023, as part of the OUC reading month.
Liu emphasized that national reading activities are a task requirement proposed in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress, and they are also an essential measure for the OUC to implement in-depth thematic education. He shared a congratulatory letter from General Secretary Xi Jinping to the first National Reading Conference, as well as an instruction on the 17th National Lifelong Learning Activity Week by Huai Jinpeng, the Minister of the Ministry of Education. Liu encouraged participants to maintain the habit of reading good books and to improve their reading skills. He recommended the book "Zhejiang, China: A New Vision for Development", describing it as concise and vivid in language, with an acute and clear viewpoint and lively form. The book's comprehensive and wide-ranging content is worth studying and practicing in both academic and professional settings.
Nine teachers shared their thoughts and experiences on reading, covering topics from politics to history, culture, and life. The contents they shared were rich and thought-provoking, demonstrating the solid reading skills and cultural literacy of the faculty and staff at OUC.
Liu expressed his satisfaction with the book sharing activity, stating that it was extensive and the participants demonstrated a deep and solid understanding of the topics discussed. He emphasized that while the reading month is a designated time frame, reading is a habit that should be cultivated in the long term. Teachers should continue to educate themselves through reading, and see it as a life attitude, a work responsibility, a spiritual pursuit, and a lifelong habit.
More than 60 staff members from nine departments attended this activity.
