The Seniors University of China (SUC) held the first "Reading Campus" Culture and Art Festival at Weigongcun Campus on 21 April 2023, in response to the country’s National Reading Campaign.

Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Open University of China (OUC), attended the event. He was joined by some 50 student and staff representatives from Weigongcun Campus, and many other students who watched the event via live streaming.

Liu participated in the activities with students and encouraged them to play an active role in the National Reading Campaign. He called on them to take part in the various activities at the festival.

The administrators of the SUC’s Weigongcun Campus introduced general information about the campus, including a profile of the student body, popular courses, student performance data, media coverage, and other events taking place during the first month of the new semester. They discussed upcoming courses, shared recruitment information for the campus librarian, and launched a series of online and offline reading activities. This included the online SUC Reading Community and the campus library corner, as part of the Reading Campus initiative.

To enrich campus life and tap into the talent of students, Weigongcun Campus has begun recruiting members for its news photography, recitation and handicraft mass organisations. The heads of these organisations passionately introduced the form and content of their activities.

Liu Caimei, vice dean of the OUC School for Older Adults, shared her insights on notable books during the event. She said she hoped more and more students could participate in reading activities in future.

A display of paintings by beginner-level students, a reading salon, and various handicraft and table games for seniors was also on offer at the festival. Students in small groups took part in their own "journey of experience" through each activity, enjoying the pleasures of painting, reading, handicrafts, table games and various other activities.
