During the rescue and relief operation for typhoon “Kai-Tak” in 2012, at a moment when many people’s lives and property were under serious threat, Tan Zhongneng and Nong Benhao boldly stepped out and used their own bodies to create a path of life through the flood. They successfully and safely moved 26 passengers to shore. After the media reported their deeds, their selfless disregard for their own personal safety in attempting to save others, tens of thousands of average citizens were moved. They earned the nicknames, “Bridge Brothers.” In August of 2013, Mr. Tan and Mr. Nong were promoted ahead of time and recommended for admission to the Kunming Command School of the Police Firefighting Army. In September of 2013, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Party Committee released “The Decision about carrying out the learning activity of learning from Tan Zhongneng and Nong Benhao,” calling for all cadres and civilians around the autonomous region to learn from Tan Zhongneng and Nong Benhao.
