On 22 September 2022, a symposium and meeting for freshmen in the Marxist Theory graduate programme, a collaboration of the Open University of China (OUC) and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJU) were held at BJU to mark the official launch of the programme.
Yan Xuedong, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, and vice president of BJU, and Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee, attended.
The programme, aiming to be pragmatic, collaborative and innovative, will be run by the Schools of Marxism of the two universities.
Yan Xuedong thanked the OUC for its trust in BJU, and praised the collaboration. The OUC has significant advantages in lifelong and online education. The Marxist Theory programme is the first major operated jointly by the two universities in order to complement their strengths, and he expressed the hope that it would offer a foundation for further collaboration.
Liu Chen expressed his heartfelt thanks to BJU for its strong support of the OUC, and spoke of the benefits of the collaboration for the School and the enhancement of ideological and political education. As a new type of university featuring “Internet +”, the OUC has successfully explored large-scale online ideological and political education. He expressed the hope that the two universities would continue to undertake in-depth exchanges as well as cooperation in curriculum-resource construction, training, education, and teaching reforms.
The two sides agreed to draft rules and procedures for implementation of the collaboration so as to promote joint training of postgraduates.
