A meeting to commend outstanding members of the Communist Party of China (CPC), outstanding Party affairs workers, and advanced Party organisations at the grassroots levels of China’s central and state organs was held in Beijing on 24 June 2021.
Three hundred and forty-nine outstanding CPC members, 262 outstanding Party affairs workers, and 309 advanced grassroots Party organisations of China's central and state organs were honoured. Li Guangde, a member of the Party Branch of the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine of the Open University of China (OUC), was included in the list of 349 outstanding communist Party members.
Li Guangde joined the CPC in December 2003 and started work in July 2010. He is a member of the OUC Discipline Inspection Commission and serves as vice dean and secretary of the Party Branch and associate professor of the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine.
Strengthen Learning and Belief
Li Guangde always sets strict requirements for himself to act as a qualified party member. He has used various means to strengthen his learning and further improved his ideals and beliefs. He has equipped his mind with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and used it to guide his work practices, which has helped to improve his ideological awareness and Party spirit.
Cultivating talents for the Party and country
Li Guangde develops his work based on the fundamental task of moral education. He is diligent, thoughtful, and practical. He always bears his identity as a CPC member in his mind and remains committed to his original intention, mission, and responsibility as a teacher. His successful work includes the application of one undergraduate major, constructing and reforming five courses, developing seven online courses and two digital textbooks, and leading two online teaching teams. He has presided over and participated in 20 scientific research projects, published 57 papers, and possesses an invention patent. He has participated in the editing of two text books and has won four awards for his scientific research achievements and papers and three awards for education and teaching. He is engaged in the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) “One College Student Per Village” Programme, which has trained more than 550,000 local talents. The project named an “Excellent Case Study for Innovation Work” by the departments directly under the MOE in 2016 and a “Lifelong Learning Brand Project” in 2020, and was awarded the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education in 2021.
Play a pioneering and exemplary role
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, he has produced a series of micro courses and books with the theme of “Rational Prevention of COVID-19 Starts from Mental and Psychological Health in an Epidemic Context” and organised a series of live broadcast lectures such as Open Discussion of Grain and Food Safety, which attracted a total of over 3.2 million viewers, as part of serving lifelong learning and the initiative of Continuity of Education During School Closures. He conquered altitude sickness and travelled deep into seven counties (prefectures) of Tibet Autonomous Region to carry out special research on “three regions and three prefectures,” a MOE targeted poverty alleviation programme, and wrote a research report on eliminating poverty.
Be brave and take action
Since he took up his post as the major leader and secretary of the Party Branch of the faculty in 2019, he has devoted himself to the development of the Party Branch and the academic development of the Faculty. He has strictly observed his duties, focused his efforts on work implementation, and achieved practical results. In 2020, the main scientific research output of the Faculty increased significantly compared to 2019. For example, the number of projects approved increased by 68.75%, and the number of papers published increased by 16.67%. In May 2021, two of the faculty’s courses were selected as Demonstration Courses for Ideological and Political Education by the MOE. In June 2021, the Faculty’s Party Branch was awarded the title of Advanced Grassroots Party Organisation directly under the MOE.
