Recently, the Open University of China (OUC) held a special seminar on the joint training of postgraduate students majoring in Marxist theory and the meeting between teachers and students of the 2024 cohort.

This event is aimed at further promoting the relevant work regarding joint cultivation in a more comprehensive and in-depth manner, and strengthening the connotative development of the School of Marxism (hereinafter referred to as the "School"), so as to effectively ensure the quality of talent cultivation. Representatives from Beijing Jiaotong University included Gao Zhengli, dean of the School; Tian Yongjing, deputy Party secretary and deputy dean of the School; Han Zhenfeng, dean of the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Marxism, and professors He Yufang, Li Xiaodong, and Wu Qiong. While those from the OUC were Xu Mingjun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee; Cao Guoyong, former executive deputy Party secretary; Liu Chen, former deputy Party secretary; Wang Huaichao, dean of the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Marxism and distinguished professor; Sun Fuwan, deputy dean of the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Marxism; Chen Kun, deputy dean of the School and deputy dean of the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Marxism. Teacher representatives of the School of Marxism, and postgraduate students majoring in Marxist theory jointly trained by the two universities also participated in the event.

Representatives of the two universities made a phased summary of the joint training work over the past two years and exchanged views on future cooperation, further strengthening training requirements, implementing the training process, and improving the training quality.

Xu Mingjun reviewed the 45-year history of the OUC and introduced the exploration and innovation of the university in recent years in terms of the construction of ideological and political courses and the construction of the School. He pointed out that it is necessary to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches and the spirit of the National Conference on Education, strengthen the construction of the "Grand Ideological and Political Courses", keep promoting the synergy between in-class and out-of-class learning, the integration of on-campus and off-campus resources, and the combination of online and offline teaching. Build a characteristic brand for ideological and political education in network education, and continuously expand the scope and territory for practical-oriented and network-based education in terms of cultivating students. He sincerely thanked Beijing Jiaotong University for the guidance and assistance it has provided in talent cultivation, course teaching, project application, resource construction, academic exchanges, and other aspects in the past two years. He hoped that the two universities could continuously improve the system and mechanism of joint training, do a good job in the cultivation of newly-enrolled postgraduate students, and effectively ensure the quality of talent cultivation. At the same time, he hoped that on the basis of joint cultivation, the two universities could uphold fundamental principles while seeking innovation to drive the connotative development of the ideological and political courses construction. By complementing each other's strengths, they could break new ground in ideological and political education in the new era and comprehensively boost the high-quality development of the School.

The delegation from Beijing Jiaotong University also visited the OUC’s "Internet + University" Exhibition Centre, learned about the 45-year development process and achievements of the OUC, observed the exhibition of "Opening a New Chapter of Elderly Education in China" at the Seniors University of China, and went to the "Grand Ideological and Political Courses" Digital Teaching Centre of the OUC for experiential exchanges.
