To thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the National Conference on Education, and actively fulfill relevant requirements in the "Key Tasks of the Open University of China for 2024", promoting the construction of high-quality teaching workforce and course teams for Legal Affairs and Law majors, recently, the School of Political Science and Law of the Open University of China (OUC) held intensive training activities for six courses, namely "Civil Law", "Commercial Law", "Contract Law", "Economic Law", "International Economic Law" and "Legal Consultation and Mediation" in Chizhou, Anhui Province.
The activities were carried out in the forms of frontier-discipline lectures, group discussions, teaching-experience sharing and practice-base observation.
Fifty-six teachers from the School of Political Science and Law at the headquarters and 38 branches and colleges across the country, together with three subject experts, participated in this event. Zhu Xianbin, vice president of Anhui Open University; Wu Hongtao, president of Chizhou Open University; and Yuan Songhe, dean of the School of Political Science and Law at the headquarters, delivered speeches at the event respectively. Hu Xiaoyu and Xue Shan, teachers from the headquarters, presided over the event.
The six unified compulsory courses, including "Civil Law", in this intensive training had an average enrolment of 80,000 students in 2023, and there are a large number of students currently studying these courses. In order to ensure high-quality teaching of these six courses, the event also invited the chief editors and lecturers of these courses, namely Professor Xue Jun from Peking University, Professor Meng Yanbei from Renmin University of China, and Professor Duan Wei from Minzu University of China. They combined the characteristics of open-education teaching to give three frontier-discipline lectures, during which they analysed and introduced the latest legislative changes, hot topics in discipline research and course-teaching experiences to the teachers of the course teams.
In the exchange and discussion session, the participating teachers carried out in-depth exchanges on topics such as course team construction, practical teaching reform, and thesis guidance and evaluation, sharing excellent experiences from various places. In the practice base visiting session, the participating teachers collectively visited the Memorial Hall of the CPC Yanjiang Central County Committee, an ideological and political education practice base in Chizhou, and discussed with the teachers and students of Chizhou Open University new methods and new ideas for using local red resources to develop ideological and political educational resources for law professional courses.
This intensive training activity had a clear theme and rich content, and carried on the fine tradition. With the chief editors and lecturers taking the lead in learning and teaching, the communication among the chief editors and lecturers, teachers from the headquarters and course-team teachers was enhanced. They shared with each other the experiences of teaching-reform for the six courses, thus laying a solid foundation for implementing the key tasks of the OUC's annual work and promoting the digital construction and high-quality development of law majors and courses.
