The recent conference on data sharing and application for higher education institutions, coupled with the launch of the second batch of pilot higher education institutions, was successfully held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province.

This pivotal event was hosted by the Education Management Information Centre of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and organised by Zhejiang University. Centred on the theme "Data Empowerment and Intelligence Integration in Higher Education Institutions," the conference aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the data sharing and application platform for colleges and universities in 2023, and also introduced the public service platform for educational big data.

A key highlight of the conference was the announcement of the exemplary cases of data sharing and application platform for higher education institutions in 2023. The submissions from the Open University of China (OUC) and 11 other colleges and universities, including prestigious institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University, were notably successful. These institutions were not only selected for the first pilot batch but also secured a place in the "one school, one case" collection for the year 2023.

As a pioneering pilot unit for the Ministry of Education's (MOE) data sharing initiative for higher education institutions, the OUC has successfully accessed shared data through the dedicated data sharing application platform. This proactive approach has significantly enhanced the development and implementation of business scenarios, including credit banks. By leveraging the MOE's extensive experience in cross-regional, cross-institutional, and cross-level data sharing, the OUC has been at the forefront in establishing an innovative model for open education data sharing within the open university system.

It has been reported that 36 pilot universities submitted a total of 44 innovative cases for data-sharing applications for consideration at the selection event. After a thorough review by experts, 12 exemplary cases were ultimately chosen.

Moving forward, the OUC is dedicated to enhancing collaboration with the MOE's data sharing platform for higher education institutions. This effort focuses on fostering business-oriented data sharing, broadening the range of data applications, diversifying application scenarios, and exploring innovative and pedagogical uses of educational data. Additionally, the OUC aims to boost the digital experiences and satisfaction of both teachers and students through data empowerment. These initiatives are geared towards supporting the high-quality development of open education.
