To comprehensively study and implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and fulfill the OUC's Key Tasks for 2023, as well as to serve the construction of a digital university and advance the digital transformation of Business Administration majors, the Faculty of Economics and Management at the Open University of China (OUC) hosted a seminar on the digital transformation of Business Administration majors and the relevant Central Teaching and Research Group in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from May 17th to 18th, 2023.
The event featured keynote speeches, academic salons, and exchanges and discussions. A total of 30 teachers from the Faculty of Economics and Management, along with 15 branches and schools, participated in the seminar.
Ge Junyi, the vice dean of the Faculty, mentioned that the seminar included theoretical studies related to the digital economy, as well as sessions for exchanges and discussions. The main objective was to provide a platform for teachers to conduct investigations and studies. She expressed her hope that each teacher would find the event beneficial.
Keynote presentations were delivered by Professor Fu Xiaodong from Kunming University of Science and Technology and Professor Gan Jiawu from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. Professor Fu Xiaodong's lecture, titled "Big Data and Artificial Intelligence", covered various aspects such as understanding big data and artificial intelligence, their applications and models, and the challenges they present. This presentation helped broaden the participants' horizons and encouraged them to explore and contemplate the digital transformation of Business Administration majors. On the other hand, Professor Gan Jiawu delivered a keynote speech titled "Digital Empowerment in Digital Transformation - the Digital Future of Enterprises." This speech focused on the challenges faced by enterprises during digital transformation and the future trends in this area. It provided valuable insights for attending teachers, prompting them to reflect on how to cultivate digital business administration talents that meet the needs of enterprises.
During the academic salon sessions, reports were presented by Professor Zhang Ailing from the Shanxi Branch, Associate Professor Zhao Hongyao from the Sichuan Branch, and Professor Zhang Suotong from the Hebei Branch, representing teachers from the OUC branches. Their reports focused on potential avenues to conduct in-depth investigations and explore the digital transformation of Business Administration majors, with a student-centered approach. These reports served as a source of inspiration for the participants.
During the exchanges and discussions segment, the participating teachers actively expressed their views and opinions, focusing on five main topics. These topics included typical experiences and challenges encountered in the digital transformation of Business Administration majors, student recruitment for minor specialties, enhancing student innovation and entrepreneurship training, the development of "dual-qualification" teaching teams, and the implementation of thematic education.
All participants unanimously agreed that the seminar had clear themes and offered a rich variety of formats and content. They recognized its significant contribution to driving the digital transformation of Business Administration majors and providing valuable references to enhance the quality of talent training in this field at the OUC.
