From 19th to 21st April 2023, the Open University of China (OUC) organised a centralized workshop on teaching computer-related majors in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province.
The event featured keynote speeches, achievement sharing, and exchanges and discussions. More than 80 teachers of computer-related majors from the OUC education system attended the workshop.
During the workshop, Shao Yunda, director of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, delivered a keynote speech closely related to the OUC's annual work priorities. He outlined the next steps in carrying out further education and teaching reforms, with a particular focus on improving the quality of engineering education and teaching.
During the workshop, representatives and teachers from relevant departments presented their explorations and practices in serving education and teaching reforms. They discussed topics such as the credit bank, current status, key tasks, and future plans of the Computer Science School, as well as the status quo and development prospects of big data technology majors. Additionally, teachers shared their experiences and knowledge on technology and applications of ChatGPT. Participants from OUC branches located in Shandong, Henan, Guangzhou, Fujian, Xi'an, Heilongjiang, and Sichuan engaged in exchanges and shared their experiences.
During the group discussions, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions about the challenges and uncertainties encountered in the teaching of computer-related majors. They provided valuable opinions and suggestions regarding the overall system of teaching work of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at OUC headquarters.
This centralized workshop was rich in content and highlighted key points that clarified the next steps of work orientation for computer-related majors. It strengthened the close contacts among teachers within the OUC education system and laid a solid foundation for further promoting the implementation of the "Six Major Projects" and comprehensively enhancing the quality of education and teaching.
