In order to help build a high-quality education system, promote deep integration of digitization, intelligentization, and education, enhance teachers' digital capabilities, and promote the construction of digital universities, the Open University of China (OUC) sent 24 teachers to participate in the first "Peking University- University of Cambridge " International Online Workshop on Education Digitalisation, which was held from 27th to 31st March 2023.
The international online workshop on education digitalisation, jointly held by Peking University and University of Cambridge, was held for five days with the theme of "Teachers’ Professional Development in Digital Age". The workshop adopted a format of theme reports and group discussions. The five theme reports covered the following topics: "Machine Learning in Finance and Economics", "Dialogic Education for the Internet Age", "AI for Collaborative Learning with Education", "Immersive Technology - Future of Platforms for Learning", and "Digital Infrastructure Enabled Teaching and Research - The Case of Digital Humanities". Experts from the education digitalisation fields of Peking University and Cambridge University deeply interpreted the profound changes and future development trends that digital technologies such as machine learning and immersive technology have brought to education. They also discussed how to promote dialogic education in the Internet age and how to use AI technology to facilitate collaborative learning among students and interactive communication between teachers and students.
After the keynote speeches, experts from Peking University and University of Cambridge joined various groups to have in-depth discussions with participating teachers to enhance their understanding of the knowledge. Participating teachers shared their own subject characteristics and teaching experiences, and discussed digital education application cases, inspiring each other.
After the training, participating teachers expressed that this was a challenging and inspiring workshop, which greatly enhanced their international perspectives. They gained a deeper understanding of cutting-edge educational concepts and methods such as dialogic education and machine learning, as well as the digital education practices both domestically and abroad. In the future, they hope to combine their own teaching practices and apply digital technologies to various aspects of student development, and strive to promote the innovation of open education and teaching modes.
