On 13 December 2022, the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Open University of China (OUC) held a teaching seminar for OUC teachers. Fan Xianrui, member of the Party Committee and vice president of the OUC, delivered a speech, and over 500 English teachers from all branches participated online.
Fan Xianrui pointed out that foreign-language teaching should embrace four attributes: a learner-centric approach; use of digital technology; a focus on using foreign-language competence to tell the world China’s stories; and close attention to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education.
In the seminar, foreign-language teaching in 2022 was assessed, and the work for 2023 introduced. This workshop focused on IT-based teaching reforms in the Faculty of Foreign Languages, attaching equal importance to teaching practice and theory.
Associate Professor Yang Fang from Tsinghua University was invited to lecture on "Intelligent Education and Foreign-language Courses".
