On 29 Nov. 2022, the Open University of China (OUC) held a seminar on Featured Discipline Construction & the 3rd Working Conference on the Adult-education Discipline Cooperation Programme.
CPC member and vice president of the OUC Fan Xianrui, as well as vice chair of the China Adult Education Association (CAEA) and dean of the CAEA Academic Committee Jiang Bo, delivered speeches. Experts in adult education from Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Southwest University, and Ningbo University also attended.
On behalf of the CAEA, Jiang Bo expressed his gratitude to the OUC for its support. He stated that the seminar was a way to study and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, and pointed out that this year happens to be the 30th anniversary of Adult Education being included in China's Discipline Classification and Code, making this conference an occasion of special significance. In addition, the construction of the discipline by the OUC is a glorious and arduous task, and plays an important role in building an education system that serves lifelong learning for all.
Prof. Gao Zhimin from East China Normal University, Prof. Li Zhimin, vice chair of the Chinese Society for Educational Development Strategy (SEDS), and Prof. Yue Chuanyong, president of Taizhou University, gave keynote speeches on the construction of first-class university disciplines and the history and future of adult-education studies.
Fan Xianrui pointed out that the OUC and its system is an important support of lifelong learning for all in China, and that the seminar’s role in studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress is of great significance.
The OUC Lifelong Education Research Institute has been exploring postgraduate education since the second half of last year, focusing on the characteristics of its target groups and the university’s accumulation of experience. The Institute has been concentrating its efforts in adult education and contributing to the construction of featured disciplines by supervising graduate students in partner universities, participating in their teaching progammes, hosting provincial and ministerial-level projects, and carrying out the construction of digital resources and live-streamed teaching.
