On 11 Nov. 2022, the Open University of China (OUC) held a seminar related to its “Lectures by Famous Teachers from 100 Universities”. Its theme was “Smart Elder-care to aid Healthy Aging”, and it was held both online and offline.
Scholars and other experts inside and outside the OUC system were invited to discuss their research on healthy aging, and its results.
Prof. Zuo Meiyun, deputy dean of the School of Information of Renmin University of China, director of the Smart Elder-care Institute, and an outstanding scholar at Renmin University of China, gave a report titled “Smart Elder-care: Current Status and Bright Prospects”. The report introduced the form and development of “smart” elder care, and outlined its prospects in terms of forms and opportunities.
Three young scholars within and outside the OUC system were invited to speak on elder care and the training of practitioners in the industry.
Profs. Zuo Meiyun and Ouyang Yanling from the OUC headquarters commented on their reports. They said that the three offered different perspectives related to academic research, enterprise practices, and teaching, presenting a good integration of industry, education and research, with great space for further cooperation.
Prof. Li Guangde, dean of the OUC Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College), said that, through this event, cohesion within the school could motivate teachers of medical disciplines to focus on teaching and research in order to contribute to the high-quality development of open education. The teachers and students present found the seminar very inspiring, down to earth, and practical.
