In order to promote teaching reforms, the goal of fostering virtue through education, and teaching skills in both curriculum-based ideological and political education and art education, the Open University of China (OUC) has organised a variety of activities.
In the second half of 2022, in consultation with teaching departments, while "strengthening cooperation with famous universities at home and abroad" as proposed by the 1st Party Congress, and fulfilling teacher-training needs, the OUC has been cooperating with the School of Continuing Education of Tsinghua University to enroll some full-time teachers in a special training programme at Tsinghua University, aiming to promote their professional development .
The training adopted the format of "synchronous online teaching + cloud forum + team learning + coffee house in the cloud". Using team learning to drive individual learning, teachers were grouped in teams to carry out teaching activities such as expert dialogues and group discussions, while the forum provided an online platform for peer discussion.
18 full-time teachers participated in the "Teaching Design and Training for ‘Curriculum-based Ideological and Political Education’ in Universities" programme organised by the School of Continuing Education at Tsinghua University.
After the conclusion of the programme, the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development interviewed three teachers, Chen Fengying (Faculty of Education), Li Wei (Faculty of Science and Engineering), and Wang Di (Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine). All three spoke of how much they had gained in terms of understanding the implementation of curriculum-based ideological and political education, and its importance. They said that in building teaching resources, they would promote a value-based orientation, enhance their skills and learning, and integrate ideological and political education with traditional content.
The OUC will also launch training programmes in art education and ideological and political education for college teachers.
