On the morning of 20 May 2022, the Open University of China (OUC) held the opening ceremony for an online class to train educators of older adults, the 4th of its kind. The class will include three special classes and serve over 1,000 trainees.

It is in the spirit of the meeting of the OUC Party Committee on "Assisting Infection Control at Jilin Open University", and to promote the revitalisation of rural education, that the OUC has launched “Online Public Service Training Class for Educators of Older Adults”. It will train 601 educators from Jilin Province, Butuo County in Sichuan Province, Li County in Gansu Province, Qinglong and Wei counties in Hebei Province, Shangyou County in Jiangxi Province, and Jishishan, Lintan and Zhouqu in Gansu Province in community and elder education.

At the same time, the OUC has been entrusted by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, the Shaanxi Community-education Guidance Centre, and Henan Open University to provide individualised training, and helped launch the "2022 Special Training Class for Older-adult Education for Community Educators in Shaanxi Province" and the "2022 Online Training Class for Educators of Older Adults in Henan Province".

The class, held online, covers population aging and related national policies, elder-education theory, infection control, cases, and other topics. A completion certificate will be issued to trainees after an examination.

Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee and president of the University for Older Adults, said in his speech that the OUC has held three online classes for educators of older adults since the end of 2020, and trained 1,200 of them. The class has become prominent at the OUC. He also expressed the hope that, through it, the trainees would expand their knowledge, broaden their horizons, strengthen their faith, and contribute to the construction of the OUC University for Older Adults and the national development of education for older adults.

All the trainees watched the broadcast, and held heated discussions in groups on the basis of their own work practices and thinking.
