In order to fully implement the basic task of cultivating talented personnel through morality, strengthen the construction of medicine-related disciplines and specialties, and improve the quality of teaching and personnel training, the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine of the Open University of China (OUC) held a meeting on the teaching of medicine majors in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from 22-23 November 2019.

Forty-four personnel in charge of teaching departments, personnel responsible for majors, and tutors and editors from medicine-related professional teaching departments from the OUC headquarters, 22 branches, and the OUC Publishing and Media Group, attended the meeting, which was presided over by Li Guangde, deputy director of the faculty.

The conference focused on the construction of medicine and pharmaceutical disciplines, the construction of majors and the online teaching team, and the ideological and political exploration of the teaching curriculum. Director Ye Zhihong from the Academic Affairs Department gave a keynote speech entitled Thoughts on the Reform of Disciplines and Team Building in the OUC. Based on an analysis of the existing problems in the university's discipline construction, he expounded on the significance, relationship and development direction of the construction of the online teaching team and the discipline construction of the OUC, which provided a good basis for further promoting the construction of the online teaching team and the development of medicine-related disciplines and specialties.

Li Guangde conveyed the spirit of the first congress of the Communist Party of China at the OUC and the 2019 teaching work conference, as well as the third plenary meeting of the OUC School Affairs Committee, and put forward three specific ideas for the implementation of work in the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine.

Relevant teachers from the headquarters reported on the current development of medicine majors, the ideas and concept of teaching reform, the undergraduate training programme for the nursing major (starting from senior high school), and the progress of the construction of the pharmaceutical major. Together with the medicine and nursing psychology course, they shared their previous research and exploration of ideological and political education in courses. Teacher representatives from the OUC’s Sichuan, Liaoning, and Bingtuan Branches and Yunnan Open University shared thoughts from four aspects: thoughts on nursing distance education and course team work at the Sichuan Branch, the construction of medicine majors at the Liaoning Branch, nursing major teaching at the Bingtuan Branch, and the construction and teaching of the medicine major and teaching at Yunnan Open University.

The teachers in attendance believed that the meeting further clarified the consensus of the school-running system in its joint efforts to improve the quality of education and teaching. It clear stated that the spirit of the first congress of the Communist Party of China at the OUC, the 2019 Teaching Work Meeting of the OUC, and the third plenary meeting of the OUC School Affairs Committee should be implemented in future teaching work and that the research and exploration of ideological and political education should be done well while also doing a good job of cultivating talented personnel and promoting the construction of disciplines, majors, and teaching teams for medicine-related majors.
